Narrow Housing

A multifamily housing concept for hard to develop, small, narrow and irregular lots in the city.

Rethinking development from the ground up, it introduces design strategies to unlock the potential of these difficult sites while creating generous living spaces that are economically built, filled with light and that remain connected to the outdoors. Foundation work, often one of the most costly elements for infill building in the city, is limited to the essential. The building, lifted on a light frame and offset away from neighboring walls, effectively reduces excavation to a small area and eliminates underused basement and cellar spaces to provide a free ground level dedicated to shared common amenities.

Floor through apartments with high ceilings on each level improve natural ventilation and lighting, while screened exterior balconies on either end give tenants access to truly usable, private and comfortable outdoor space. Simple features that improve the quality of life and health residents living in the city.
